President’s Message – Jan 2025

Monika and I attended the MAFCA National Awards Banquet in Salt Lake City a few weeks ago where the local chapters: the Salty A’s, the Beehive A’s and the Utah Valley A’s hosted a stellar ‘mini convention’. A new Board was sworn in and we said goodbye to several wonderful fellow Board members including: Robert Bullard, Melanie Whittington, Gary Price and Dave Gill. Chet Wojcik Jr. also tendered his resignation due to personal matters.
Heartfelt thanks go out to Gary Price and Dave Gill, who were instrumental in recovering from the disaster that faced us in Ruidoso, NM. They assisted Raymond Gabeldon, Vicky LuJan-Gibbs and the Southwest Model A’s in turning around, what would have been a financial disaster for MAFCA. But with that said, we are even more impressed with all those National club members who were willing to step up and donate knowing of the devastation facing us.

The 2025 MAFCA Board of Directors was also announced in Salt Lake City but was two seats shy of the 9 members as set out in our By-Laws. Then on January 2nd Will Langford also tendered his resignation from MAFCA opening up yet another position on the Board stating personal reasons. The six officers and directors that were installed then met on January 4th to appoint three individuals to occupy the positions of Secretary, Membership and Chapter Coordinator.

The 2025 Board consists of the following: President – Ed Tolman, Vice-President – Happy Begg, Treasurer – Bill Truesdell, Secretary – David Frazee, Technical Director – Paul Shinn, Chapter Coordinator – Doug Linden, Publications and PR – Sherry Winkinhofer, Advertising – Dave Krill and Membership & Marketing – Jay McCord. I look forward with great anticipation to work with these fine folks and serve you, our members during the upcoming year.

The Holiday Motor Excursion, sponsored by the Horseless Carriage Club of America, is held the last Sunday of every year in the Arcadia, California and I’ve been encouraged, by friends, for many years to attend and finally had the opportunity on December 29, 2024. 10 Model A’s from my local chapter, the Pomona Valley Model A Ford Club, gathered in the early morning hours and braved the fog to participate in the Motor Excursion, where I had the opportunity to meet and greet so many MAFCA members from Southern California representing most Southern California Regional chapters. What a grand experience. Jay Leno was not in attendance this year but usually drives one of is rare beauties. I look forward to next year!

Finally, I’d like to encourage all to participate in as many National events as possible where you get to rub shoulders with your fellow Model A enthusiasts. First up will be the 2025 National Tour to the Civil War sites of Virginia. You can find more info on our Home Page. Next will be Model A Days in Hickory Corners, Michigan on the campus of the Gilmore Automobile Museum held on September 20, 2025. This year is special with the unveiling of the Model A Museum expansion to be held that weekend. If you’ve never been to the MAAFI Model A museum, this is a must see to add to your Bucket List.

And next December, will find us in Mobile Alabama for the National Awards Banquet. The dates are December 4th thru 7th with great plans in store for us by Charlotte Dahlenberg and the Gulf Coast Model A’s. Registration will open in a few months so be sure and visit the MAFCA website for updates.

May 2025 be full of great driving opportunities for you and your Model A!
