President’s Message – July 2025

2025 07 Steering Column

By now many of us Model A owners will have had ample opportunities to get Henry’s Lady out on the road whether it be to car shows or tours like the National Tour of Virginia. By the time this edition of the Restorer is published I will have made my cross country road trip to Virginia from California in my 1928 Tudor and should have posted a few photos and videos on Social Media. I’ll give a better report of the trip in the September issue of the Restorer but if you’d like to see what I’ve been up to visit our Face Book page.

Some of you are aware that MAFCA has a digital newsletter to serve our members when no Restorer is in your mailbox; but for those who aren’t aware, it is called The Flying Quail. Envisioned several years ago by the MAFCA Board as a way to keep us connected, it was originally intended as a monthly newsletter but has since morphed into a bimonthly digital magazine when there is no Restorer magazine in your mailbox. (even numbered months) This is where MAFCA leadership can keep us informed and connected with articles from Technical to Era fashion as well as information on Local, Regional and National events. And sometimes, when space is an issue for in-depth articles in the Restorer, you can read them in the Flying Quail, where space isn’t an issue.

Robert Mack of the Utah Valley A’s has taken over the responsibilities as editor of the Flying Quail and is doing a great job. Currently the number of folks taking advantage of this publication is rather small so if you would like to add your name to the distribution list please visit the MAFCA website and find the button for publications and then scroll down to Flying Quail and click the link. This page allows you to view past issues as well as sign up for future issues.

And don’t forget to mark your calendars for Model A Days at the Model A Ford Museum in Hickory Corners, Michigan this September 19th and 20th. This year is special as it will be the official opening of the Museum Expansion. And if you’d like to follow the final stages of the project just visit the Model A Ford Foundation website and click on the ‘live’ cams. www.maffi.org

Lastly, please remember to check out our advertisers found in this magazine as well as on our website. And remember, as Paul Shinn always likes to say regarding our Model A’s: “Drive it like you know how to fix it!”
