Q: I recently found and picked up a Zenith 1 carburetor that I want to rebuild and keep handy for a spare. I have it disassembled, cleaned and ready to paint. Now for the rebuild, I normally order most of my parts from Snyder’s as I have received good service, and being in Indiana they are just next door and have quick delivery. I was going to order the rebuild kit that contains new jets, float valve, gaskets ect. Is this the right kit to get? Thank you for any advice you may have before I get started on putting it back together.
– Jeff
A: The rebuild kit from Snyder’s is probably as good as you’re going to find from any Model A supplier. I prefer to use original jets (with numbers on them) but if you HAVE to use reproduction jets, it’s a good idea to check them for the correct lengths and hole sizes.

Q: What is the level of water in radiator supposed to be? Just installed a new radiator, the only place I see coolant dripping is the overflow pipe, does it do that all the time? Or will it get to a level and quit going out the overflow?
Larry P
A: The water level in your radiator should be filled to just below that vent tube (you should be able to see the top of it inside the radiator fill hole). The water will then seek its own level and will likely not drip out of the overflow tube in time.

Q: I have a 1928 Tudor. I recently was backing down a steep drive and had to use considerable brake to arrest my decent. In the process the stop light switch rod pulled past the switch housing and shorted. Since then, I have no headlights or taillight. I plan to replace the wiring harness anyway and would like to add blinkers. I have single bulb headlights, no cowl lights and a single drum taillight. I assume I can add blinkers to the rear bumpers as well? Who makes the best harness? Which bumper signal blinkers do you suggest?
– Stewart
A: It sounds like the light switch may have been in the wrong location, or the rod that goes between the brake pedal shaft clevis and the switch may have been the incorrect length. The brake pedal should be able to go all the way to the floor without the light switch rod pulling out of the switch. All the good Model A parts vendors sell wiring harnesses, several of them sell the ones made by Bratton’s, (which are my favorite ones still made today). Be sure and order a new rod to go from the pedal to the switch, just in case.
Adding lights for turn signals or extra brake lights is easy if you use the ones Snyder’s and other sell that have brackets to hold them on the rear to the rear bumper brackets. Snyder’s part number A-13401-A6.
